As a first generation Finnish Canadian I am proud of my heritage. Both of my parents were born in Finland and they and their families were impacted greatly by the 2nd World War. Most significantly my mother’s family came from the part of eastern Finland that is now Russia. They persevered through tremendous hardships which has been well documented, for example in books and movies about the Winter War, a conflict fought between the Soviet Union and Finland from late 1939 to early 1940. The conflict began with the Soviet Union’s surprise attack on Finland on November 30, 1939, and ended with the Treaty of Moscow on March 12, 1940.
Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, the Finnish army, aided by their knowledge of the terrain and winter conditions, managed to put up a determined defense.
Their story is the ultimate definition of Sisu. My life and career, while no where near as dramatic or severe, has had many examples of Sisu. This is the premise of my offering as a consultant: resilience, determination, and courage in building Enterprise Sales strategies.
